Neutral Positioning Proper stance and positioning allows a wrestler to set up for offensive shots, while at the same time provides a defensive barrier against the opponents attacks. Key elements include, keeping knees bent with the elbows in, weight shifting evenly, never crossing your legs or ankles as you circle and maneuvering for superior head position and for an angle of advantage to attack. Circling or advancing, not backing up, dictating the movement and the tempo. A square stance provides stability and a great defensive base. A staggered stance (with one leg forward) allows you to keep the back leg cocked and ready to trigger a penetration shot for a leg attack.
